This day was not supposed to start like this……..
One of H+ H’s friends (Barbara) was supposedly doing a sponsored paraglide for a cancer charity called Tulips. She’s been having ground breaking immunotherapy cancer treatment in TRNC and wanted to put a bit back in. Unfortunately, too windy, but it did happen later on – see my PS below. I have to say she was very brave, considering that she gets the wobbles just going up an escalator, allegedly………
So a bit of a late change of plan. Since the ankle was reasonably sane, I decided to drive west and visit the Panagra Dam at Gecitkoy. It’s one of the main reservoirs for North Cyprus and has been made into a bit of a tourist attraction, with paths, BBQ areas, etc. The water colour really is what you seen in the pix below. All very pretty. Nice walking too.
Whilst I still had the car, I decided to re-visit the Kogan Experience (see Day 8) and stop there for lunch. This meant a bit of cross country on minor roads, which I always enjoy.
Bit quiet today, as it’s now the end of the season. Somehow the pix got taken when nobody else was there !!! They have an indoor place as well, but much nicer outside. Also a couple of clay ovens outside as well, with a bit of a limited choice – lamb of chicken, that’s it today. Very tasty though. I forgot to take a pic of the view……..
I was under strict orders to return to the house by a certain time, as an evening out en masse had been arranged by my hosts. So suitable refreshed, it was off to the Calamari Restaurant in Lapta. The main area is built over the sea itself. Very nice food and company.
So we have Huseyin, Heather (my hosts, on the left), their next door neighbours (Jane and Robin), John and Adela (new arrivals come to live in TRNC, but visited before), some friend/relations of Jane/Robin plus yours truly.
Huseyin seemed to succumb to the “cold”, so ended up with a tablecloth for company. What a wooss !!!
I even managed somehow to get a small birthday cake – not my birthday though ! This is a running gag with the assembled expats, so that the sweet toothed amongst them get a free bit of cake.
Good fun evening though. It’s so nice not to worry about driving and having a drink or two…….
PS. Here is Barbara later in the week ( after I was on my way home) , doing her stuff for Tulips. Considering she is still very much recovering from her cancer treatment, I think she deserves a medal. There was a TV camera crew on hand as well, all of which got the message across about supporting cancer charities.
