NORTH COAST 500 + OTHER STUFF – Thursday 24 September 2020 – Day 18 – Clachtoll “rest day”

Quiet day today, with reasonable sun. After a bit of a late start, I decided to do some of local exploring.

Just down the road was Achmelvich Bay, yet another big beach and caravans. Fun and games drive to this one, down a very narrow and undulating unclassified road.

My next port of call was Lochinver. A fishing port with, reputedly, the best pie shop (the Lochinver Larder) in Scotland. Unfortunately closed due to you know what. They do “pies by post” but it’s a minimum order of 12 pies ! Not got that much room in my freezer….

Onward…

I then tried to find some recommended waterfalls at Inverkirkaig, but somehow missed the turning and ended up somewhere back on the A845, near Drumrunie on  the main road to Ullapool…. Never mind, the scenery wasn’t too bad !

A quick lunch stop in a layby provided me with this bit of amusement. Only in Scotland…..

Back to camp then, a run up some nice wide twin track roads made a pleasant change……

The day ending with more glorious sunset stuff. No apologies.

Off to Gairloch tomorrow, further south down the coast.
